Jesus wept.

John 11:35

AJ says, “I find [John 11:35] inspiring for many reasons. It speaks to me of how personal Jesus was. I also appreciate the simplistic beauty of it. It encourages me to know that Jesus cares so much about us that He would cry with us when we need him most. This is one of the greatest comforts in knowing Jesus and a way to share that love with others.”

AJ's Story

Alan Davis, aka AJ, was born in a small town in Illinois and then later moved to Fort Worth, Texas. His home congregation is at Crown of Life Lutheran Church in Colleyville, TX. There he participated and engaged in youth group and church activities. He has a big family which meets biennially at Camp Okoboji.

He studied German and Psychology at the University of North Texas. During his studies, he had the opportunity to study abroad in Germany. There he saw old beautiful churches but was quite surprised to find many of the churches were mostly empty. This led him to pursue the calling of being a GEO Missionary through the LCMS Office of International Missions. He served five years in the eastern part of Slovakia, teaching English at local high schools, helping the church, and engaging with youth in the community.

After five years he went back to the US and got a job working as a social worker in Fort Worth. In 2016, he married Lucia, whom he met while serving in Slovakia. After getting married, they decided to move back to Slovakia, where God has called them to continue to serve the people of Slovakia.

AJ teaches English  at the Lutheran kindergarten in Zilina, Slovakia . He is also involved with helping coordinate American short-term volunteers coming to Slovakia and is on the leadership team for the adult church gatherings in Zilina.
