Melissa Asmamaw (formerly, Karges) hails from Dayton, Nevada, and although “international experience” was limited in this small town, it was there a passion in her began to grow to increase the population of heaven.
She began her overseas service in Hungary with the LCMS Office of International Mission. She spent six years as an English teacher and relationship builder in secondary schools there, and during this time, became a part of the inaugural Mission of Christ Network team in 2014.
After leaving Hungary, she received her Masters Degree in School Counseling, which led to open doors in Ethiopia. She spent two years developing the counseling program at Bingham Academy, an international Christian in Addis Ababa. There, she met and married her husband, Teddy, in 2020.
Now Melissa serves with the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus at the Mekane Yesus Seminary in Addis Ababa. Here, she has returned to teaching and works with a variety of students ranging from those studying Theology to Jazz Music to Media. Through the various subjects she teaches, her aim is to equip students to take the Gospel with them wherever they go in their personal and professional lives.
Any funds raised that exceed Mission Partner’s agreed upon stipend amount will become the property of MCN. In the alternative, excess funds may be used to support Mission Partner in missional activities under a new MOU, or Mission Partner may assign, after consultation with the Executive Director, any excess funds to one or more Mission Partners who are in good standing with MCN. The purpose for this is that any funds raised are to support missional activities throughout the world, and not for the financial benefit of MCN.
