For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast.
Barbara is a native Californian and life-long LCMS member. She was introduced to missions at a young age by her family hosting missionary families supported by their local congregation. She was raised in a nurturing Christian atmosphere, which provided her a strong foundation for her faith.
Barbara married her husband, Jonathan, in 1983 and enjoyed over 37 years of marriage before his passing from cancer in November 2020. She has two married children and six grandchildren. Barbara had a 40-year career as a CPA, serving in several financial reporting departments, retiring in January 2021.
Upon her husband’s passing, Barbara “had many conversations” with God about her future and decided to turn the next chapter of her life completely over to Him, asking him to be the author. Her part was to keep an open mind and an open heart and to listen to where God was directing her.
In September of 2022, Barbara participated in a Reformation Tour in Germany, visiting many of the Martin Luther historical sites. Although she had lived in Germany in the late 1970s and knew of the difficulties of the Christian Church under Soviet rule, being there and talking to the people first hand left her with a very strong feeling in her heart that maybe God was calling her to help spread the Gospel in Central Europe.
God carefully and quietly guided Barbara to Mission of Christ Network, specifically to partner with a ministry using a language school and a bed and breakfast to build relationships and share the Gospel in Central Europe.
