This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

1 John 4:9-11

Clara Rich lives and works in the central hills of Slovakia, where she is a teacher at Evanjelické Gymnázium Tisovec (EGT), an English-Slovak bilingual Lutheran high school. She teaches English conversation, Biology, and New Testament classes, leads choir and after-school English clubs, and builds relationships with students and community members, whether through English tutoring, going hiking together, or simply sharing a meal.

Clara prays that God will shine His light brightly through her and continue to make his faithfulness known to her students and the people of Tisovec, that they too may know the hope and peace that Jesus gives.

Clara grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska surrounded by a loving, close-knit Christian family. Daughter of Darin and Wendy and sister to Audrey, Evan and Collin, Clara thanks God for the faithful Christian witness of family members, friends, and mentors who have spoken his words into every season of her life. She was blessed to attend Lutheran schools since preschool, beginning at Messiah Lutheran, graduating from Lincoln Lutheran High School, and then going to college nearby at Concordia University-Nebraska. She studied music and biology at CUNE, and also took courses in education and Teaching English as a Second Language.

Despite calling “The Good Life State” of Nebraska home all her life, Clara discovered a passion for learning the stories of people and places not her own during many childhood family trips and college choir and band tours. While in South Africa with the A Cappella Choir in 2017, she watched God speak his love and life across races and over language barriers as the choir sang for (and with!) the people there and got to know them. As she experienced “those from every tribe and tongue” worshiping God in incredible unity, Clara began to more clearly hear God calling her to cross-cultural ministry.

In her free time, you can find Clara outside on a mountain hiking or biking, in the kitchen trying a new recipe, playing the piano, or drinking coffee and reading a book from the EGT school library.
