Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me.

Philippians 3:13-14

Karen Heimsoth was born in Peoria, Illinois.  She grew up in Washburn, Illinois in a small town. In the United States, she has lived in Chicago, Detroit, and Houston.

She began her overseas experience with the LCMS Office of International Mission in 1993 and spent ten years in Russia (Moscow and Novosibirsk), Hungary, and Germany (Berlin) teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) in Moscow and Sopron, coordinating the ESL teachers in Novosibirsk, and liaising with the German Independent Evangelical Lutheran Church on outreach to the Russian German immigrants in Germany.

After leaving Berlin, she received her master’s degree in International Development, which led to her fifteen-year career in the Department of State (DoS) in U.S. Embassies and Consulates on five different continents. She worked in Pakistan, France, Russia, Libya, South and Central America, Bangladesh, and Burundi, serving in the consular, public affairs, and management sections. She retired from DoS in 2020.

Karen is excited to teach ESL and share the Gospel as she builds relationships with people in Hong Kong.
