David and Lois' Story
David will serve as interim pastor in two congregations that hold English-language worship in a city of 18 million people near Hong Kong. These services are attended by more than 300 people a week, many of whom are not yet Christians or are new to the faith. Among other responsibilities, David will preach and lead worship in the two congregations. He and his wife, Lois, also will focus on relationship-building and evangelism in order to share the Gospel with those who don’t yet know Christ as their Savior.
A native of Quincy, Ill., David has a journalism degree and theology degrees from each of the Missouri Synod’s two seminaries. He served as pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, Glen Cove, N.Y., before accepting a call in 1985 to be director of news and information for The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod and editor of the Synod’s official periodicals. From 2005 to 2009, he was the assistant to the executive director of LCMS World Mission, and from 2009 until his retirement in 2016, he served as a missionary in Germany. He currently volunteers as the newsletter editor for Mission of Christ Network and chairs the Board of Missions at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Des Peres, MO.
Lois grew up in Peoria, Ill., and has bachelor’s degrees from Iowa State University (family environment) and the University of Maryland (accounting). She has worked as a home economist and, for many years, in banking as a commercial-finance field examiner. She enjoys aerobics, reading, and friends.
David and Lois ask your prayers for their ministry in Asia and for the entire MCN mission team, that our heavenly Father would provide the necessary gifts and servant hearts to carry out the work to which He has called them.
Any funds raised that exceed Mission Partner’s agreed upon stipend amount will become the property of MCN. In the alternative, excess funds may be used to support Mission Partner in missional activities under a new MOU, or Mission Partner may assign, after consultation with the Executive Director, any excess funds to one or more Mission Partners who are in good standing with MCN. The purpose for this is that any funds raised are to support missional activities throughout the world, and not for the financial benefit of MCN.
