Serving Opportunity
The Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus is the largest Lutheran church body in the world. Their seminary in Addis Ababa trains pastors and church workers from many language backgrounds. English is the required language for higher education in Ethiopia; however, many students lack the English skills necessary to complete the academic work. The Intensive English Program where MCN mission partners teach is seeking to address this challenge.
Part-time mission partners are requested to make repeat trips to support the English program through supplemental English practice and teaching through conversation. Helping seminary students strengthen their English skills will not only allow them to learn from global theologians and study together at the seminary in spite of their varied native languages. It will also in turn allow them to contribute to worldwide theological conversations, African Bible translation work, and many other types of global ministry!
You Will Be
- Working with students to improve their English through conversation
- Helping plan and support English-language cultural enrichment events held on campus
- Helping teach classes with direction from main teachers
- Tutoring students one-on-one as needed
“As an MCN missionary at Mekane Yesus Seminary (MYS) since 2016, I am amazed to see MYS’s efforts and progress in advancing the Kingdom’s work! The current need in the area of addressing English language development is an example of expansion of ministry work to further contribute to theological conversations’ advancement around the world.”
