Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
Proverbs 3:5
Ruth Moon grew up on ranches in Colorado with her parents and three brothers. As she spent time working with children through church and as a counselor at Lutheran Valley Retreat, she developed a passion for education and sharing God’s love by spending time pouring into kids. She chose to study Elementary Education and Spanish with an endorsement in ESL at Concordia University, Nebraska, with the hope that this would give her the opportunity to serve God with her gifts.
During her time at Concordia, she became seriously interested in serving internationally. She spent a month studying Spanish in Costa Rica and student taught in Ecuador, experiences which solidified her desire to serve the Lord internationally. She volunteered with Lighthouse Transformation Ministries’ online language classes and was excited when an opportunity opened up to work with the mission partners in Costa Rica.
Ruth now works with LightHouse Transformation Ministries in the community of Parrita, Costa Rica. The ministry focuses on proclaiming the gospel through building meaningful relationships, community involvement, and providing educational resources. Much of this work takes place within the Parrita High School where LightHouse provides English classes and runs activities for students during the lunch hour. Ruth is able to use her ESL experience to plan and teach English classes alongside her teammates. Through LightHouse’s various programs, Ruth and her teammates are able connect with students and share the love of Christ with them, both inside and out of the high school.
Ruth has played piano for 15 years and has been a part of choirs and praise bands at Concordia and her churches. She continues to lead worship at the church she attends in Costa Rica. She loves spending time in the great outdoors hiking and exploring, and often spends her free time reading books and creating art.
Please pray for Ruth as God guides her to use her gifts and experiences to cultivate relationships and share the Gospel in Costa Rica.
