So shall my Word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.

Isaiah 55:11

Stephen teaches New Testament and Luther’s Theology courses at China Lutheran Seminary in Hsinchu, Taiwan. He also serves in the seminary administration as Director of the Graduate Program in Luther Studies, managing the Master of Theology in Luther Studies program. His heart and vision are focused on preparing servants of the cross for the great harvest in the Chinese world (John 4:35-38, Matthew 9:36-38).

Dr. Oliver graduated from Concordia University, Portland (B.A. 1982) and Concordia Seminary, St. Louis (M.Div. 1986, S.T.M. 1997, Ph.D. 2002). He was pastor of Holy Cross, Carlisle, Iowa for four years. He then served on Pacific Fleet ships as Navy Chaplain for four years. In 2000, he began 24 years of missionary work with LCMS World Mission in Taiwan and throughout Asia as a theological educator, including three years as the Asia Theological Education Facilitator. The passion of his heart has been to proclaim and root the Word of God into peoples’ lives to be God’s servants of salvation in Jesus to the many who are lost.

Stephen met his wife in Taiwan. Maggie worked for ten years in high-tech companies before earning her master’s degree in counseling from China Lutheran Seminary (2006). Her vocation as full-time mom and wife have also allowed her valuable time to host a mommy fellowship group in their home, design and teach an interesting and fun Small Catechism course for Chinese kids, and serve in a variety of ways. Their three children are Isaac, Gary and Ginny.
