The LORD will go before and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.

Deuteronomy 31:8

Olivia's Story

Despite the uncertainties of global travel in 2020, God proved His faithfulness in calling (and carrying) Olivia to Chiayi, Taiwan. There she has been blessed with the opportunity to teach English through Bible stories at Concordia Middle School (CMS). Her junior-high students range from 11 to 15 years old, and classes vary from simple retellings of beloved Bible stories to conversation classes that encourage deeper engagement. She has long been a proponent of the power of the story, so this is the best of all worlds! It is a joy to partner with CMS, a school founded by LCMS missionaries in 1967, to proclaim the Gospel and grow relationships with students in the least evangelized county in Taiwan.

Olivia is thankful for the blessings and opportunities the Lord has used to lead her to this place at this time. Born and raised in Minnesota, she was first inspired to join international missions when she and her dad went on the ultimate daddy-daughter date volunteering at a children’s camp in Costa Rica. Further opportunities included studying abroad in Chile and several weeks teaching English in China. She graduated from Concordia University – Nebraska in 2019 with a degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, World & Intercultural Studies, and Spanish. She praises God for the faithful witness and support of parents and teachers, and for the opportunity to join the work of the Kingdom of God in Taiwan, starting in November 2020.

Please pray for continued opportunities, a Spirit-filled classroom, and boldness in living out the Gospel in day-to-day life. “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” (Luke 10:2)

Any funds raised that exceed Mission Partner’s agreed upon stipend amount will become the property of MCN. In the alternative, excess funds may be used to support Mission Partner in missional activities under a new MOU, or Mission Partner may assign, after consultation with the Executive Director, any excess funds to one or more Mission Partners who are in good standing with MCN. The purpose for this is that any funds raised are to support missional activities throughout the world, and not for the financial benefit of MCN.
