Rebecca Pumphrey was born in Barberton, Ohio, and in high school moved with her parents and younger sister to Fort Wayne, Indiana, while her dad attended seminary. Upon her dad’s graduation, she and her family moved to Villard, Minnesota, for her dad’s first call in 2021.
As a child, Becca grew up in a Christian home. Though she felt confident of the Sunday School answers to faith-related questions, she had a hard time finding meaning in them. This, in addition to middle and high school stressors, eventually led her to despair. She sought help and got everything sorted out but was still struggling—enter a Christian therapist who mentioned the idea of spiritual care.
Upon considering the importance of spiritual care, Becca realized the slightest bit of the true meaning of the Gospel: God made her for a purpose, loves her, and has borne all of her sins. Flash forward to today, she has served at Lutheran Island Camp for three summers, is a junior in the Pre-Deaconess program at Concordia University St. Paul, and longs to serve in any way God lets her get her hands on!
Her passions and driving factors in life are the underground church, God’s promises, missionaries and martyrs who have come before her, the importance of spiritual care and mercy work, and her parents who have supported her and continue to support her all the way. “Let all that you do be done in love” -1 Corinthians 16:14
This summer, Rebecca will be spending 6-8 weeks serving with MCN at Stronghold Cambodia, where she will assist with English education programming and spread God’s love to the children and their families.
Any funds raised that exceed Mission Partner’s Total Cost of Missionary Service may be used to further support Mission Partner in missional activities, or Mission Partner may donate, after consultation with the Executive Director, any excess funds to one or more Mission Partners who are in good standing with MCN or to MCN’s General Fund. The purpose for this is that any funds raised are to support missional activities throughout the world.
