Amanda grew up in Wisconsin. Her parents instilled in her, along with her brothers and sister, the importance of being active in church. It was through church that Amanda was first exposed to mission work. When Amanda was six or seven years old, a friend’s congregation hosted a day where missionaries from all over the world spoke about the work and countries they were serving in. Amanda
listened to missionaries speak about the work being done in Spain, the United States, and Afghanistan, amongst other places, all of which made a lasting impression on her, creating in her a desire to be a missionary when she grew up.
Amanda attended University Wisconsin – La Crosse. It was in college that she discovered her passion for international travel and had her first taste of tutoring English to non-native speakers while working with international students at the University’s Writing Center. Amanda graduated in 2010 with a B.A. degree
in English Literature.
After college, Amanda spent the next six years serving as a kindergarten and elementary school English teacher in Chiayi, Taiwan through LCMS. There she taught Bible, reading, writing, and oral classes, along
with helping to lead both language and Bible activities outside of school. Taiwan still holds a very special place in her heart. Starting August 2017 Amanda will begin teaching in Nyíregyháza Hungary at a Lutheran primary school and also help to lead youth activities at the local Lutheran church. Please keep Amanda in your prayers as she begins this new opportunity to be involved in God’s mission in Eastern Europe.
Outside of work, Amanda enjoys: reading, traveling, cooking and baking, and biking.
Any funds raised that exceed Mission Partner’s agreed upon stipend amount will become the property of MCN. In the alternative, excess funds may be used to support Mission Partner in missional activities under a new MOU, or Mission Partner may assign, after consultation with the Executive Director, any excess funds to one or more Mission Partners who are in good standing with MCN. The purpose for this is that any funds raised are to support missional activities throughout the world, and not for the financial benefit of MCN.
