John 15:5

I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing

Nathan and Beth's Story

Nathan and Beth Toenjes live and serve in a city of 18 million people located near Hong Kong. They are spreading the hope of Jesus through sharing in conversations, life, and relationships with the ‘neighbors’ that they meet, as well as working together with the local Christian church leaders at two different churches. The goal is to provide opportunities for faith development and growth, biblical conversations, and a place where all nations, expatriates and nationals, can gather together as one to worship. One of the ways this takes place is through English Worship services held at these two different churches. Within these unique communities, the goal is to create lasting relationships that result in people’s lives being impacted and transformed by the Gospel, which then results in the Gospel transformation of the city.

This is a large and growing Asian city that is full of transition. The city has grown out of nowhere and people are constantly on the move. The population is made up of individuals from all around the country and from all around the world. What an opportunity for God to make a difference in these people’s lives before they one day return to their homes and potentially take the Gospel message with them!

Nathan, a Green Bay, Wisconsin native, and Beth, an Omaha, Nebraska native, met at Concordia University, Nebraska and were married in June of 2017. While at Concordia Beth pursued mission-focused studies and graduated with majors in both World and Intercultural Studies and Spanish, and Nathan graduated from the Director of Christian Education program. In the United States they most recently served in North Miami, Florida where Nathan completed his DCE internship at Holy Cross Lutheran Church.

Both Nathan and Beth have grown up in faithful Christian families and in a variety of ministry contexts. Throughout their experiences they have developed a passion for sharing the love of Jesus with his people and empowering others to do the same wherever they go. This passion has led them to carry his love in a variety of ways both around the United States and around the world.

Wherever they go, they enjoy exploring the outdoors, trying the latest and most local food, and searching for the best cup of coffee in town. Whether in the States or around the world, their focus remains the same – sharing the love and gospel of Jesus through intentional relationships with others!

Any funds raised that exceed Mission Partner’s Total Cost of Missionary Service may be used to further support Mission Partner in missional activities, or Mission Partner may donate, after consultation with the Executive Director, any excess funds to one or more Mission Partners who are in good standing with MCN or to MCN’s General Fund.
