I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing
Nathan and Beth's Story
Nathan and Beth Toenjes will be living and serving in a city of 18 million people located near Hong Kong. The two congregations they will be working with hold English worship services attended by more than 300 people each week from all different nations, many of whom are not yet Christians or are new to the faith.
A major focus of their ministry will be relationship-building and discipleship of young Christians, as well as sharing the Gospel with those who do not yet know him. They will seek to build community through small group Bible studies, leadership training, and coordinating outreach activities.
Nathan, a Green Bay, Wisconsin native, and Beth, an Omaha, Nebraska native, met at Concordia University, Nebraska and were married in June of 2017. While at Concordia Beth pursued mission-focused studies and graduated with majors in bothWorld and Intercultural Studies and Spanish, and Nathan graduated from the Director of Christian Education program. They most recently served in North Miami, Florida where Nathan completed his DCE internship at Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
Both Nathan and Beth have grown up in faithful Christian families and in a variety of ministry contexts. Throughout their experiences they have developed a passion for sharing the love of Jesus with his people and empowering others to do the same wherever they go. This passion has led them to carry his love to Nebraska, Miami, Guatemala, Haiti, Spain, and now Asia.
Wherever they go, they enjoy exploring new outdoor adventures, trying the latest and most local food, and searching for the best cup of coffee in town. While Asia is a new destination for them, they are looking forward to how all of these past experiences and passions will lead and direct them as they do what they have learned to do everywhere they go – share the love and gospel of Jesus through intentional relationships with others!
